Just a quick not that while the word "diet" is used here, i mean "lifestyle change." This is not a change in behavior that will end, tho we will move into "maintenance diet" once we reach our goal weight. I use the word diet as a sort of short-hand. I'm well aware that any change in behavior that cannot be sustained indefinitely is probably doomed to fail.

There are exceptions tho like quick interventions like temporary keto in emergency situations to help someone at risk lose weight quickly and then slowly transition to a sustainable diet based on moderate use of real, home-prepared food.

That is the method used by my hospital's weight loss clinic and tho while i'll admit it scares the bejesus out of me, it's supposed to be very effective. But it's just for dire situations and requires medical supervision to prevent organ damage.
