I have a friend that may get out of the hospital prior to what he should. He self admitted himself to the hospital. If this happens, his family is elderly and his wife cannot just quit work, are there home health nurses that specialize in this?

There is such a thing: http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu...psychiatry.cfm

But it has to do with one's health insurance and community, etc. I imagine if he checked himself in and is leaving before they think he should, he probably doesn't qualify for much? I would have him check with his psychiatrist or a social worker/agency to see what's available based on his particular community and situation.

Maybe since he doesn't like the full-time hospitalization; lots of hospitals have day care centers where someone can go during the day if no one's home, etc. But if he's deciding things on his own, there's no one that will come and "make" him do anything or just be with him, etc. He has to need/want it.
