hello everyone,

My son who is 20; recently (6 weeks ago) had a major manic episode w/psychosis. we always knew he had anxiety and moodiness but this was a major breakdown. the doctors have suggested that he might have bipolar. i'm just looking for some support and advice. hes on meds right now and is doing alot better but he is scared and now seems down. he is the sweetest, kindest person but very scared (as am I).

thanks

Is he seeing a therapist? I wish I had some wise words to give you - I know it is scary. Just know that there are many people here who can relate and understand. Welcome to PC and just a suggestion, you might post some in the bipolar forum - there are some wise, insightful members there who can really relate.
My 16 year old son suffers from major depression and severe social anxiety. I have found a lot of support in this forum. Parenting is one of the toughest jobs in the world!

yes he is seeing a therapist, thanks for responding, i feel like no one understands what me as a parent is going through as well. it sucks when your child (no matter the age) is hurting and you can't make it better.

I have said those exact words so many times... I am so sorry for what you are going through. I saw you posted in Bipolar and got some good responses. I wish I had great answers...just know that you are not alone!

Oh and by the way....you are more than welcome to come on here and vent anytime you need to...sometimes situations are so frustrating and can make you feel so helpless - you need a place to get these things off your chest. Remember to take care of YOU while helping your son!

There is nothing quite as painful as watching a child suffer and feeling helpless to fix it. I understand the heartbreak. It is hard to always put on the "strong" face. I tell my son often that I love him and that I am always in his corner no matter what. I worry about my son a lot too and always question if I am doing enough. Hang in there!
