Hey all,

I have been diagnosed as having bipolar disorder and borderline personality disorder. The last few weeks have been stressful for me and I went a little berzurk. My boyfriend has no idea how to deal with me or what to do when I am "acting out" or cutting etc. How can he learn to cope/support and what to do in this situation. I haven't found any decent info yet. HELP!!!

if he has a puter there's a wealth of info out there and at pc. plus support groups in communities.
what are you doing in regard to your MI? does he feel that he needs to save you or does he realize he can't fix you? IDK. more info would help.

There is this book I read called Loving someone who is bipolar disorder by julie a fast. It really has helped me and my husband. It gives examples of what my mind says and how I act out then it gives examples on how he may help you. It's an exercise book and I hope to learn more. Also going to a support group, psych visits and therpy together will really help. Lots of research online in different websites, asking questions on here has helped too. As I just ran into the website today on the book I mentioned. I don't remember how I found it but I am sure you can find it on your own. She actually sells several books to help you and your bf learn how to deal with this together. If you ever wish to ask me any question I would be happy to answer as best and honest as I can to my illness. Everyone is different and what works for one may not for another. There is hope for us.

Is there a local NAMI chapter in your area? Visit their website if you are unsure. I can't post links yet so just search for the National Alliance on Mental Illness. They helped me out greatly when it came to dealing with my mom's (and eventually my own) mental illness. They offer support groups and classes free of charge. Good luck to you & hang in there!
