All winter long my Mom and Dad have been sick. They are so thin they look like concentration camp victims. In and out of the hospital. With the grandson problem, I am so happy to have my horses. Anyway, my Mom and Dad decided to take one of my brothers' dogs pups. Like all pups, they bite when they play, and my Mom and Dad are old, and think he is so cute. I told them a long time back not to let him bite and chew on them or anyone like that, to stop it with holding his mouth shut and saying No Bite! Well, they let it go, and they are old, and their skin is very thin. Every time I saw my Mom she had tooth marks on her hands and arms. Over the Memorial day weekend her left arm had a bite mark between the elbow and wrist on top. It became swollen and red and my Dad told her to go to the emergency room. She also got strep which is going around. She is very stubborn and would not do what everyone wanted her to do. The following Tuesday, I saw her arm and it was pretty swollen from the elbow to the wrist. I told her to go to the emergency room. She thought the wait would be too long so she went to a clinic. They gave her antibiotics for the strep and the arm and sent her home. On Thursday, my day off, she came over before noon crying for me to look at her arm. It was red from under her arm down to her fingers. I took her to the emergency room and everyone there was pretty upset when they saw her. She was admitted and put on drip antibiotics and will not get out of the hospital til Monday!! Her lymph nodes were swelled under her arm. She argued with the doctor about staying there, and he said Mam, do you want to keep your arm? So that is my story about a stubborn old woman who will not listen to anyone. What a mess!!

I'm sorry.
What a mess. If the edges of an infection go red, it is serious. They were uspet with her because she should have seen it spreading. Swelling from infection is an impediment to fluid flow. That's what the swelling is, backed up fluid. If the infection had gone one more day, you'd likely be arranging a service. Saving the arm is not guaranteed, at this point. What was her body temp? The doctors are probably saying a lot more to each other than they are to y'all. Modern antibiotics *are* pretty amazing, though. I will pray for you. Lar |
