The upshot is that my brother is not really safe at home, but not sick enough to stay in the nursing home. He is going to be discharged next week. The only thing i can do is put him back at his apartment w/ some home care and hope for the best.
I don't know what to do. He was denied Medicaid, which i have started the appeal process. He is indigent. Personal care home cost upwards of $1500 a month, which none of us has. This sucks canal water.
I am turning into a socialist--there is enough @##%%#@ing money in the USA to pay for every old person's care.
I have stairs so i don't know if he could live w/ me--i feel conflicted about that, putting all that on my husband, because i have all my own health issues, and he takes care of me alot too. My other brother has a one-story house, but he is battling lymphoma.
Things aren't going to miraculously get better.
I wish i could just fly away.

Hi (((((((((((Boo))))))) I wish I could take your troubles and just blow them down my river here....
If he is indigent and unable to work I don't understand why he can't get medicaid, that is basically welfare. Are you going through Social Security for this? With them I know you have to appeal, but I find it really hard to fathom that someone who is ill and unable to care for themselves can not get some kind of county help. Maybe it depends on where you live, but here it seems like everyone and there cousin is on medicaid to the point that I who also receive it because I was a stay at home mom and never had enough work hours to receive regular SS, I had to go this route, everyone just thinks I am on welfare and that is thorn in my side,,,, sorry didn't mean to rant on you here, but I do understand your frustration with the system. I also know what it is like to have your own health issues and then try to care for another and the same with putting more on your husband. I really wish I knew how to help except to offer my heart and hand in friendship if you should ever have a need. Take care in the meantime of yourself first.... Linda
