Hi. I'm new here, so please bear with me.
I'm 22 years old and I've been with my boyfriend (35) for almost 4 years. Friday, he finally told me he had paranoid schizophrenia. He was having an episode where he kept calling a radio station and going off about politics. This was going on for the whole of last week and I don't know how to deal with this. I don't. He had an episode like this 2 years ago and he's been okay until last week. Please help. I don't know what to do. I have my own issues- Depression, Eating Disorder, Self-Injury and I'm feeling at the end of my rope with this. |

You certainly sound like you have your hands full. You have your own issues, and now this thing with your boyfriend. I honestly think it's too much to expect you to take this on totally by yourself. He has a serious mental disorder.
Do his parents help him? Is he seeing a therapist and a psychiatrist? Is he taking his meds? First, I suggest you check with him about therapy and psychiatric treatment. He definitely needs them consistently--and to take meds. You should also consider meeting with him and his psychiatrist or therapist for a session (with his permission) to hear what they suggest. Also, I hope you are in therapy yourself. If not, then please make an appointment ASAP. Hope these ideas help. ![]() |
