My best friend is trying to get off Effexor, and having the usual symptoms: brain zaps, fatigue, anger, mood swings, headaches, balance/vision issues, etc. I want to help him but I really have no idea how to. He mentioned a detox facility but the only detox facilities I know of are for alcohol or drug abuse...not drugs that you've been prescribed but can't get off. Any thoughts or advice? Thanks.

i know effexor is a drug you cant just get off cold turkey. it is dangerous. he needs to taper off of it. i cant remember what kind of pill it is but cut it up, take less of the capsule.........ideally do it under a drs guidance and just get lower dose prescriptions,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I'm currently going off of Duloxetine (generic Cymbalta). It's only been 5 days. But, so far, so good. My pdoc has put me 20 mg. / day of an old antidepressant. I've heard of this before. I don't know if it's helping. But, as I say, so far I'm doing okay.

Thanks for the help guys. Skeezyks I hope it continues to go well for you! I've told him to keep going slow and that it will just take time, but he doesn't like that answer. He keeps asking me to find something online to help him, but I honestly have no idea what to do for him. I think he wants a treatment center to take him in and let him detox there. I can't find any centers that allow that. All of the ones I can find only allow drugs (like heroin) and alcohol. Any thoughts?
