My son diagnosed with schizoaffective has never had visual hallucinations until a couple of months ago. His hallucinations were mostly auditory. His meds have reduced the auditory but recently he started having visuals. He was diagnosed a few years ago so I can't understand why he is just now having visuals when he has been doing so much better over the last year. Anyone else dealt with a similar issue?

I can only think of two things.......things progress...or it is his meds.....Zoloft caused me to have auditoryn hallucinations..........let his pdoc know what is going on. a change in meds could do the trick.

Could be partial seizures....temporal lobe epilepsy can cause complex visuals along with smells and very real sounds...they are short....couple of minutes tops...antipsychotics don't work on them you need anticonvulsants. This would imply having both conditions....which is a current possibility for me personally but I'm not sure how common it is. Still something to consider....an EEG would be helpful if you can get one for him.
