hi oh god
treat her like a friend who cares about her welfare. encourage her to seek help from a professional and to talk to her parents about what is going on with her. Maybe you could research bipolar disorder (it is what manic depression is called now) and do a summary of the signs and symptoms and treatment so everybody involved can understand and make better choices to help her. welcome to psych central. you will find we have several forums where you can post about your concerns and receive feedback from other members. you will get a lot of support here. again, welcome

I wouldn't treat her any differently, yet encourage her, especially where she isn't speaking well, to talk with her doctors about this. Not certain why she's not told her family. In many instances there's a family history of the illness and reaching out can relieve some of the isolated feelings one may have.
