There is something really really wrong with my Dad. Almost everyday he has these massive freak out fits, where he will start off by pacing and then he will start to grab his chest and start to squeeze and release it while he is walking.

Then he will grab and pull big piles of hair (if he has not shaved his head of course) and just start to scream, when we ask him what is wrong he tells us he doesn't know, but will grab his chest again and then check his pulse rate. He then goes to the bathroom and will cry his eyes out, and come back out and act all normal ish.

He is never violent towards any of us in the house, or any of our pets he even asks us to go to our bedrooms when he starts to get like that so we don't have to watch him.

We have taken him to the er a few times but all they have done is made him talk to a srhink for about 10 minutes if it was even that long, how gave him celexa which has done a complete zero for him, and another time a doctor gave him a 15 tablet script for Ativan which works for a day or so then he is back to freaking out, and we are almost out of that.

He hardly ever sleeps because I heard him telling my mom, that when he lays down, his mind keeps telling him if he closes his eyes he wont wake up again.

He is constantly thinking his heart is failing which it isn't.

The problem we have is our dad isn't a legal resident of the United States he has 5 kids can't work for a few reasons, my Mom works 70 hours a week to keep us all, he has tried for medicaid but been refused twice.

We can't afford to go to a lawyer and try and get him legal so we can get him insurance, my Mom has really good insurance for everyone in our family and it sucks to see him like this.

We can't send him back to the UK, because if he has an issue in the Airport or on a plane, they will not see that all he needs is constant reasurance and told hes ok and not going to die (doing this takes about an hour and only lasts for maybe 6 hours if we're lucky) they will see his actions as some kind of violent outburst or threatening behavior which it isn't.

So we have no idea what to do.

So if anyone has any real advice please help me

Hi shoulderbob and welcome to Psych Central!

I'm assuming the Gainesville you live in is in Florida. I lived in Bradenton for many years and while going through a really tough spot financially was able to get some help by calling 211. It's similar to 911 in that they can help you find services. I don't think your dad's lack of citizenship will matter.

Try that and hopefully they can point you in the right direction.

The ER will only give out enough meds to give you time to get him to a proper doctor, especially in FL. The state watches doctors like a hawk over how many prescriptions they write for controlled substances.

I will keep your father and your family in my prayers. Best of luck to you and feel free to send me a private message anytime. I'll do what I can to help.
