Hello. I am not sure if this is the right place to put this post so if anyone feels it belongs somewhere more appropriate please feel free to move the post.

I have a loved one who has a brother dealing with a lot of issues. He is currently in a hospital type mental facility/ juvinellie jail and doesn't really belong there in my opinion.

A little information about the kid. He's 14 divorced parents. father was not around much after age 5 or so. Mother is not totally there in the head. Shes very sweet and loving but is no proactive in life or mentalty healthty, she is also handicapped.

He also has a sister (my loved one) who was close with him growing up but due to there 10 year age different wasn't around much for his up brining after being a baby.

From what I know the brother has ADHD a sever case that doctors told the mother before he was born he was going to have. Im sure there are other mental issues there but the mother never talked much about what else was going on.

Anyhow this kid is intelligent and has a great heart.

I just don't think were was enough structure or order in his life and no one punishing him properly.

Anyhow this kid is just sitting in the mental home and the mother and father are not strong enough to try and breakthrough to this kid and change his path in life. Again this kid is a good kid. He has a strong passion for trains and we want to try to fix his life skills so he could operate like a normal part of society and work on trains as hes dreamed of.

Does anyone have any information as for how to handle a situation like this ?

Whats the best route to take ? Is there hope ?

Any information grately appreciated I truly care about this kid

Does this young man have a social caseworker with the county or something similar? He may have an open Dependency and Neglect case, based on the information you are providing. Is he in legal trouble? There is a difference between a psych unit and a juvenile detention center. Unless there is either a child protection case or legal charges pending against him, maybe just paying him a visit on visiting days would give him reassurance that someone out there cares for him.

I agree, you can probably be most helpful by just being friends with him.
