Just looking for others who might be married to a bipolar spouse. Most of the time things are fine and "normal". He takes his meds, sees a therapist, but then all of a sudden it all goes to poo. He'll relapse for a day, beat himself up over it, stop all therapy, stop AA, and get really depressed. Been married about a year; together for 2 years. I love him. I can manage most of the time. We have pretty good communication. I've take a class by NAMI. Read a lot. Go to therapy.

No abuse verbal or physical. He does try to manipulate me at times, but I've gotten to know when he is doing it pretty early on. We don't fight unless he's in a manic state or is sneaking off to do drugs. The kids don't notice anything wrong. When things are good they are good, but when it's bad, well...you know.

I can't talk to friends b/c of the judgement of mood disorders. They all say to leave him. I won't. I would tell them to leave their own spouses as I see way more disrespectful things. Our relationship is just misunderstood. Sigh.

I am the Bipolar Husband in my own marriage. I would hone in on the drug and alcohol abuse. If I lose my sobriety at 3+ years, the rest goes out the window. Why is he still tinkering with getting high?

Kids at 2 years? Second time around for each of you? Is he working?
