last night I took my gf to south Austin medical center and we went to the er because her meds caused her jaw to shake uncontrollably , her body went numb and she had started a rash the doctor said he couldn't do anything because it's because of her drug and he's not a psychiatrist. He told her I don't see anything so prove it. He said oh Geodon the drug doesn't cause withdrawal symptoms if you were to stop it etc. My gf was hysterically crying bc she just wanted someone to help her. He said oh you're just having anxiety and need to see a social worker. So I said listen I have a degree in social work I've been with her for a long time she isn't making this stuff up. And he was lile I've been doomg this for 15 years y don't think I know what I'm talking about? I'm like you're invalidating everything she's saying. He's like what do you want me to do? So I pulled up facts on the drug and he told me I do nothing for her but make things worse and told me to go away. So then he talks to her and she's like he told her he couldn't help this isnt a medical issue and she begged for her discharge papers and he steady said you need to see a shrink etc. So now we are filing a complaint! What is wrong with these doctors and what can we do?

I can tell you from experience the er is not equipped to handle psych and they don't want to either. Sometimes a Dr won't even talk to you but wait until a pdoc or s.w. can
It sucks but doubtful it will change

Sorry you had that experience. You can always call the hospital ombudsman and discuss this for a resolution.

I am sorry that your girlfriend went through all that for nothing. I hope that by now she has gotten in to see her Pdoc and see what is truly going on. As far as ER's go it's been a crap shoot when my step sons have gone. Sometimes they are very helpful and other times cold as ice and very unhelpful.
