I just don't know how to handle this situation. My brother has struggled with schizophrenia for 40 years ( let's call him Don). He's 62 years old and has been living with my mom the entire time. She's coddled him to the point that he's very dependent.
Now Mom is dying and she doesn't have much more time. My other brother, Tim, is dying of cancer and he also will be gone soon. I live in New Mexico and he's in Maryland. We have aunts, uncles and cousins in Maryland. I live in my RV and travel a lot. I don't know what to do with Don. I think he's capable of living more independently, but I'm not sure. I don't want to find a place for him in Maryland and leave to return to New Mexico. I don't know if anyone would go to see him. I don't know how well he'd do on his own after living with mom all these years. I'm having such a hard time wrestling with this. Does anyone have any ideas for me? Thanks so much. |
