Hi - I met a young person last year and we have become good friends. He was recently diagnosed with bi-polar and two other syndromes. I am kind of older and would like to support him but have never experienced anything like what he goes through. I am hoping to find others trying to support those they love who have mental health issues. At the moment he has turned against me quite suddenly and hasn't spoken to me for 10 days, which is odd. And has blocked me on social media. which is really odd. I am flying blind here and only have my guts and online resources/articles and a book to guide me. I would really appreciate communicating with others going through this.

Hello RosieGamgee: I'm not the person you're looking for here on PC. However I noticed this is your first post. So I thought I would at least welcome you to Psych Central.
Here's a link to the Bipolar forum, here on PC, just in case you haven't already found it: https://psychcentralforums.com/bipolar/ And then here are links to 5 articles, from Psych Central's archives, that may be of interest. The last 4 are targeted more toward family members of people who have bipolar disorder. Hopefully though some of the suggestions in them will still be of help: Bipolar Disorder: Symptoms, Types & Treatments | Psych Central 10 Tips for Living with a Bipolar Person How to Best Support a Loved One with Bipolar Disorder 8 Ways to Help Your Bipolar Loved One Cope https://psychcentral.com/lib/15-ways...illness/?all=1 I hope you find PC to be of benefit. |

I cannot say precisely what their problem is, but when my friend got into a manic state in their bipolar cycle, they have turned on me in the past. Once they got treatment they were better towards me, but it really has changed the level of trust in my relationship with them.
