I have a question I'd like to pose to anyone in the know.

Let me begin by stating that in the Enneagram I rate a type 8w7 SW. I've had 2 separate girlfriends (both psych majors ... students mind you, not professionals) state on separate occasions, with no interaction, that my sociological profile places me as a narcissistic anti-social emotional vampire.

i've had 2 different professional psychologists and quite a few psych students (some that know me well, and some that don't know me at all) state that I'm 1 of 2 different personality types.

The first of these is ENTP and the second is ESTP. I've done a bit of research and taken a few online tests and I get both results myself. I'm aware that there is a bit of a blurred line between personality types, but my question is this:

Is it possible to completely encompass 2 separate supplemental personality types simultaneously?
after quite a bit of research it seems that I fit almost every single behavioral pattern for both types, and I'm a bit torn as to how to describe myself.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Hello Psyphon,

While I haven't researched much on the Enneagram personality system, I have looked into the system from which ENTP and ESTP are from. I will warn you that I am no professional, and I became rather obsessed with studying personalities independently while I was in highschool and then college a couple years ago. But since no one has replied to you yet, I thought I would give it a shot. Now, without knowing you at all, I really can't determine what kind of a person you are just from text on a screen. I have a lot to say though, and I would like to try to help.

I like to keep things as simple as possible, so first to answer your question, I want to say, to my understanding of course, sort of. I need to say that I believe there are merely 4 fully fleshed out personality types. Now I know this might be difficult to grasp as a lot of these systems that people have out there have like 8, or 20, or something inbetween there. However, these 4 types can be mixed together, either with the person having 50/50% of two, or a primary and secondary personality type. I think that a person that is a 50/50 type hybrid can feel like they have all of the traits of both, and this must be what you are experiencing.

You say you are a bit torn as to how to describe yourself. It won't be hard for me to recognize which personalities you are. Going into detail on what I personally believe each of these personalities are is a bit much for just a single post, but let me ask you a few things. Do you see yourself as a leader type person? Or do you oftentimes want to follow other people and let them lead you? If you have a strong answer to this question, it alone will narrow the options by half. Now you've said that your girlfriends states you are a narcissistic anti-social emotional vampire. To me, this is a flag indicating that there are other things playing a fairly large role in all of this. Things get murky whenever you bring things like mood swings, negativity/positivity, and possibly (but hopefully not) disorders into the picture. I will need to know more before continuing. I'd like to hear more from you and I hope you eventually find your answer.
