What exactly is schizotypal personality disorder? What does it take for someone to be diagnosed with it? I know they say that I have it, but I really have no clue why and I don't see the doctor who diagnosed me with it anymore. Does it have anything to do with DID? I'm so lost with everything. I feel so stupid.

Here's a description based on the DSM criteria. Basically, it's a set of personality traits that make it hard to trust people because of suspiciousness and odd thoughts and ideas. It would be hard to have much social support, and includes strange beliefs, behaviors, etc. I knew a girl who had this, and in her case she had an obsession with anime, and believed that she didn't belong in this world. She felt like she was so different from everyone else that she could never be accepted. She got a lot better when she was able to get to know other people around her and learn that they were a lot more like her and she was a lot more like them than she ever thought possible. Does this sound like you? It is in a whole different category from DID, and I can't think of much that those two disorders have in common. Personality disorders are patterns of personality and behavior that reach a level where they interfere with your life. DID is a dissociative disorder. Does this help? Thank you for your reply. I kind of understand it better. I can kind of understand where they are coming from. Like I don't have a support system and I don't fit in and stuff. I didn't think it had anything to do with DID but just thought I would ask. Thanks again.

You're welcome. I never felt like I fit in either, but it has helped to hang out here and be able to talk about things that I just couldn't anyplace else.
