I was just diagnosed with OCPD, and was wondering what other people experienced with this. What kinds of therapy have been helpful? Does it get better? Any feedback is welcomed

Hi, MadCatter, and welcome to Psych Central! I'll get back to you.
![]() Okay, I'm back. We'll need to wait, of course, to see if anyone else here right now has this diagnosis. I did have some symptoms like these ones years ago, thinking I needed to be perfect and that mistakes were terrible, awful actions, to be avoided at all costs. Therapy has helped me to see that we all make mistakes, and life goes on anyway. As usual, the main issue with getting better is wanting to get better, realizing that our beliefs and behaviors are actually causing problems, and that life can be better with some changes. Psychodynamic therapy can be helpful, although it would be time consuming. Probably most folks these days would find cognitive/behavioral therapy the way to go. And medication can help with possible related issues such as anxiety/stress. I have had this therapy and take an anti-anxiety med. Last edited by Travelinglady; Aug 29, 2014 at 06:36 PM. |

Hi I too have this
![]() I'm going to be honest I've had this many years and tried every treatment and therapy out there unfortunately it done nothing to 'cure' it for want of a better word, however it did give me a better understanding of myself and why I behave the way I do. For me a talking therapy is always the way to go, I also use mindfulness for those really bad times even though I thought it was a load of cr**p at first. If you want to discuss any specific issue of my or your experiences please feel free to ask or message me if you don't want to share with fellow members. Take care J
