I love the Mayo Clinic and National Library of Medicine (down the block from NIH in Bethesda, MD where I grew up) for learning about my health problems:

The following site has been developed by consumers in order to provide information about DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy developed by Marsha Linehan). It is a terrific resource for people wanting to know more about DBT and many of the homework worksheets are provided online. I think that parts of the site are still under development:
http://www.dbtselfhelp.com/ The following is a consumer site that is run and maintained by a lady with a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder. She writes extensively on her experiences with the disorder and her experiences in therapy. Both from an 'objective' and 'subjective' point of view. Some of her writing has brought tears to my eyes and really helped me feel understood. Some of her writing has helped me better understand the nature of borderline personality disorder (from a charitable perspective): http://www.toddlertime.com/dx/borderline/index.htm She also has similar pages on other disorders if you hunt around the site a bit. Here is a kind of an index: http://www.toddlertime.com/disorders.htm |

I came across this site and found it helpful, and encouraging. Seems my situation is not all tha bad as it sounded from every other .. I beleive a person can want to change and fill that void with love, if power is not doing it.

I like that site too. I need to explore it some more, as I hadn't noticed all the stuff on the "extras" page, and some of that is really good stuff.

It appears from the website below that the UK now has a proactive program to help people with PD’s:
http://www.personalitydisorder.org.uk/ In addition to the video clips on the main page, there is another page with clips that show how life might be lived and experienced by people with other PD’s: http://www.personalitydisorder.org.uk/about/pd-resources/life-at-the-extremes/ These latter “portraits” seem not particularly complimentary but seem to strive to be realistic. And they may help engender better understanding of what living with a PD can be like. |

I found the blog "stop walking on eggshells" on psychology today to be very useful when I was first coming to terms with my BPD and NPD traits. There's a good number of posts on there about how both disorders are rooted in shame.
I don't have a personality disorder diagnosis but I've not responded terrible well to treatment for depression or addiction. I know that I have plenty of NPD and BPD traits and I strongly feel that it's those that I need to address now. I'm re-starting therapy on the NHS now and I'm really hopeful about where that will go now that I've had this insight into myself and crucially now that I'm feeling more confident about speaking up about which treatments work for me and which don't. |
