1.) Habitual contrarian. Argues just to be arguing. You can express the same opinion they just expressed yesterday, and you're still wrong.

2.) Pushes boundaries. At first their behavior is mildly eccentric. When that's tolerated, they keep escalating until they find something socially unacceptable enough to raise eyebrows. Then when that happens, they play wounded and raise a big ruckus about how their right to do X has been violated, doggone it!

3.) Related to #2, keeps provoking until you get angry. The more you ask them to stop, the more they keep it up. They will claim they're only joking, but if you think it's funny and laugh, they switch tactics until they find something that pisses you off instead. Then when they've finally worked your last nerve, and you get angry, they tell you you're crazy, can't take a joke, etc.

Is there a specific name for any of these?

You don't need a label for every behaviour. Sometimes a person can just be acting like a jerk.
Thanks for this!

I suppose I was wondering if such button-pushing and being a jerk is indeed a symptom of a disorder. Maybe not?

Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar, and sometimes a jerk is just a jerk.
