<font color="purple"> I am dxed with PD NOS ('mainly consisting of sensitive, compulsive, emotional, unstable, and impulsive behaviour'.) .There is no option for PD NOS in drop down list for "What kinds of issues are you grappling with in your life currently? " in profile.

Given that PD NOS is, as far as i am aware, the most prevalent personality disorder dx given(reflecting faults in current categorically based system for dxing PDs?) i am a little surprised at this omission. </font>

Er... Trouble is that NOS isn't really a 'natural kind' of disorder so much as a remainder. The idea is that if you know someone is depressed then you can make certain generalisations about the symptoms they are likely to have, the treatments that are likely to have, and the course the disorder is likely to take etc. Not so with NOS, however...

Thanks.

I surely didn't mean for you to leave. I just meant to provide an explanation as to why personality disorder NOS isn't in the drop down menu.

yes that's right. NOS is not otherwise specified and NEC is not elsewhere classified.

Sure you should be here!

I love what my therapist said about Personality Disorders. She is an analyst and doesn't apply diagnoses. When I mentioned personality disorder (previous therapist mentioned avoidant personality disorder) she gently chuckled and said Well, what ISN'T part of one's personality? I loved that. She wasn't going to label me or pidgeon-hole me, she was just going to learn about the reality of who I am. This is the best therapy I've ever been in.

So, PD NOS is kind of like what she said to me, do you think?

I have major depression and anxiety.

I also have a lot of family problems that they do not want to acknoweldge their illnesses. (sigh).

Echoes, I think she said/meant there's literally no such thing; no PD at all because we all have attributes of all the disorders. There's just different places on the various attribute continuums. Look at the way the Mayo Clinic describes them as "clusters":

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/per...orders/DS00562

But who doesn't sometimes have (especially as judged by someone else :-) "odd, eccentric behavior" or get "dramatic" or "anxious and fearful"? Yes we're probably going to "favor" one cluster over another but it's all just a combination of inborn traits and what we've "learned" from our environment growing up. If something doesn't work, therapy helps us modify what we've learned from our environment. I was born prone to anxiety and my mother dying and stepmother's own anxious behavior (controlling and anger) didn't make me feel any more secure. But now I'm grown; have lived a lot of life and had more, different experiences; and my therapist and I modified the effects of some of my earlier exeriences. That's all life is about I think, "living".
