For those who don't know, I already have been diagnosed with a bundle of stuff, and for personality disorders, it is narcissistic, schizoid and schizotypal, although NPD is the strongest.
So, after telling him the new symptoms and seeing him look blank as usual, I asked him if he finds anything new. Apparently he did. He said I meet the requirements and everything for Anti-Social Personality Disorder. Now, already knowing I have NPD, is it possible to have both? He was unsure if it was both or simply NPD taken to a far end of the continuum. With NPD, it says you don't recognize feelings in others. This is true but what if you don't recognize in yourself? Feeling constant anger and not feeling other feelings for years and years. So can one have NPD and ASPD or is it not possible? I know there's considerable overlap between the two and that's why we're confused, whether it is both or simply an extension of NPD. Any ideas here? |

Yes it's totally possible and probably just a probable to have both anti-social and narcissistic... I've been diagnosed as narcissistic and borderline (anti-social traits). And yes there is overlap here too. I asked my doctor if this was a possible combination and he said yes it's just as likely to have 2+ personality disorders as to just have one. For my guess and this is just a guess but I would say that anti-social and narcissistic are the closest to each other as far as symptoms are concerned. They are both cluster B disorders... presuming you know about the three clusters. They both seem to lack in empathy. They put their needs above others, no remorse for their actions etc. By the way I love your s/n. I get compliments on mine too
By the way how did your doc come to the conclusion you were NPD and AsPD? Did he/she make you do all those crazy tests? I hated the crazy tests. 90

Had to fill out some little quizzes, answer some questions, talk to parents and then he came out with that idea. Yes I know about the 3 clusters.
I was first diagnosed with NPD then later, he told me he had been considering ASPD also but was less sure on it later. So, he asked for more information and got it. |
