Hey All,

I'm sort of writing this as a form of support for people with PTSD. I was raped 4 years ago, and for a couple of years afterwards I was still having flashbacks and reexperiencing the trauma. This summer I went to a therapist who did this thing called EMDR (eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing, only I did it with sounds). Anyways, it seemed to have really worked. I mean, I am still really struggling with depression now and am still on meds and seeing a therapist, but the trauma from the rape hasn't come up again and I havn't been having flashbacks or thinking about it a lot really...I'm not really sure how it works or if it works for everyone, but you may want to give it a try for things that were traumatic for you.

I don't know if I had full blown PTSD though, but I do know I had several symptoms of it, and now I still struggle with sleep, depression, and maybe hyperarousal too to some degree. I think it is a process for getting better, but at least we are all trying to get some help.
Thanks for this!

Hey there,

I had EMDR a few years ago and I also found it helpful, instead of following my therapists fingers with my eyes I closed my eyes and she used hand tapping.

I've had EMDR on and off for years and find it really helpful, although sometimes I find it too intense, and it causes me to dissociate. But overall it's been beneficial. Glad that it helped you.
