Had a dental appointment, got there early, tv had the today show on
I saw the first one-------------"scuse me, i have to change my appointmet to another day" Went to nearest Red Cross-volunteered, yess trained Disaster-gotta get there I watched those buildings go up when i worked on Wall Street in the '70s------- There There--see nothing--wore headband round neck for hot days-kept wetting it wash the ash off---- People ash--bodies of people ash. yes set up tables-St Paul's by borough hall-- lying to people--no- he's home waiting for you- you walk that bridge--- Muzac playing in the background--constant ash wind choking--okay yeah EVACUATE that's the whole idea-another one -it's tilting this way--- thumps...and muzac---72 hours on my feett--lying to people-telling them how to walk home lowered down--by my feet- he's alive!--but my 108 lb body can scarcely fit-how??? Flash here in the desert winds and suffocating particles in the air. flash light in my eyes---an emt-"she's in shock-she's outta here next van" Stupid--what do you call it here? "Passive suicidal thoughts"? I should have died that day-the day the greatest city in the world was brought to it's knees; i was brought to mine--not heroic at all none of us--what did we win??? |

Oh, theodora, why must everything be a contest; a competition? You live to tell your tale. Not every hero gets a parade. That does not make them a failure.
