My OCD has gotten so bad from the PTSD (I've been using OCD as a coping skill since I was an infant) - that I barely will leave the house. Everything is dirty. I have a husband and 3 beautiful little boys and I feel like such a failure. My doctor just started me on Lexapro - has this helped anyone? Any other meds that help? I'm really worried about weight gain too. Please help if you can.

Lexapro does help lots of folks, I hear tell to give it time, might take five weeks or so for full effects.

Do you have a therapist too, someone to talk with?

I do thank you for asking. I have a wonderful doctor and therapist - after 10 really lousy ones. I'm just worried because I have finally found the right doctors and we are moving in 2 months. It is so hard to find doctors that realy listen. Thankyou for what you said about Lexapro - I've heard the same thing, just wanted some "real feedback".

I personally wasn't able to take it, at about the five week mark, tremors and jaw tension was too much for me. I did like though that I felt more cheerful and less anxious.

-So- glad you have decent help now, makes all the difference. And I applaud you for persisting in the quest. 10 really lousy ones, and you kept on.

Hmm, moving in two months, can you get referrals to new docs from your current docs?

Sarah

Have you checked out the OCD Foundation? Also there are growing treatment programs. Good luck.

I have not taken lexapro but there is medication and therapist that work. It is frustrating going through different medications and therapist to find the right one but it is better than suffering for the rest of your life. The medication helps but its the therapy that will provide the most relief. Dealing with the underlying issue that you have had since childhood will help your OCD. Also, since OCD has become your way of coping you will have to learn a new "healthy" way to cope. OCD is a way to cope but a bad way. Not your fault because it worked but it will just make things worse. I was on multiple meds for a while when I was in heavy therapy and it did help but I agree with others to give it time. As far as weight gain...well its better than being crazy.

I'm so sorry. That must be terrible for you. Having ocd myself, it's no fun at all. I don't have any advice for you because I'm sort of in the same boat. But just want to send you a big hug. OCD very BAD - medicine that helps!!! OCD very BAD - medicine that helps!!!
