A blocked number keeps calling my mobile and I am freaking out. They call between 5-10 times a day. I always have it on vibrate so it won't ring during class or work and I hardly ever check my phone so I have never actually managed to pick up when they have been calling and I have no idea who it is. I am really getting scared. Logically I tell myself there is nothing to fear but that's probably a lie and I'm not sure and I keep obsessing over it. They're been calling for probably three days now and I spent all of my classes thinking about it today.

I've asked some friends if it could be their numbers or something and they have said no and I've locked my door and checked my windows and searched everywhere for who knows what but I can't stop panic from creeping over me. I don't know what I will do if they call again or even if they don't. Just freaking out and I have an exam tomorrow and another one the day after.

Ares,

Some marketing groups get hold of your phone number and it gets cycled through some kind of phone system. You could look on your phone to see what number comes up and try phoning it from a pay phone. You don't even need to say anything, just listen. I may take away some of your concerns.

Have you tried putting the number on google and seeing if it comes up with something? It doesn't always work, but sometimes something will come up.

Ares, I'm not sure if you are in the US or not, but if you are, a good first step could be signing up for the National Do Not Call Registry. This registry adds you to a list that telemarketers must respect unless they are exempted explicitly. This will not help in the short-term, but after 31 days most telemarketers who would be calling you should stop. This should help you figure out if the blocked number that is calling is simply a telemarketer.

It's also possible that anyone from bill collectors to insurance representatives could be calling you without leaving voicemail. Many companies disallow voicemail messages if information regarding the call is of a personal nature.

Best regards!

ok , i have a secrecy issue iget super paranoid when people call and i have no idea who they are.....when they keep calling i feel like they are watching me....the 5-10 times a day thing...yehai had that happen to me and it kept up for 3 months...it was a telemarketer csomething about warranty for my car running out..which little did they know i didn't own a car....i got a phone number that someone else had before me and i got so many restricted calls...i always ended up either not answering or having someone else answer my phone for me...yes for numbers that show google is the best place to get the number for the others either change the number or just wait it out or you can tell them not to call.
Just always rememebr never too give your phone number out online for any forms and just give the phone to someone else to answer so you are not so freaked out

I get very triggered by unknown numbers as well, even though logically I know there isn't anything to fear but my PTSD goes nuts regardless. Everytime I have had it happen, it has been a telemarketer or some sort of sales pitch for insurance. When I start to panic about it I try and talk about it with someone so they can help me rationalize it, or I remember my grounding exercises to help me through my panic and I am very gentle with myself for the next few days because I know my anxiety and startle response is going to be high. Do you have a therapist you can discuss this with? Or why this triggers you so bad? Sometimes getting to the root of a trigger helps defuse its power. Sending peaceful thoughts, Typo
