I'm too raw and sensitive. Uncomfortable. Blah. Taking things personally. My forum responses to people feel too heightened, like if they don't see me, I'm invisible, and it is personal.

Ouchy. Okay, it's possibly some perimenopausal symptoms, plus pms, plus extra stressful tired wiped out, plus doing some things that push me, plus usual life stress. Pain, traumatic memories flashing recently. Being in physical pain ain't helping either.

So, time for a good cry, another hot bath, an Ativan. A good book to read, computer off. This too shall pass.

Just because you're overly sensitive doesn't mean it's a bad thing. I'm also pretty sensitive. I'm better than I used to be but not much better. I cry or get upset over the littlest things...often taking them to extremes.

Hang in there. If you need to talk I'm here.

For what it is worth Sarah I know a LOT of us feel kinda this way and have pulled way back or stopped posting recently I do not think it is just you or being overly sensitive totally...those of us who post often and on a regular basis have felt it and well for myself I have cut back by about 75 per cent... I am thinking in a couple of weeks we will maybe all be refreshed. In the meantime I am off and on here and even NOT on here..I enjoy my time away ..you do the same and stay safe

I understand very well what you are saying. Yes, sometime we can be over sensitive but sometime we are just plainly sensitive because we have feelings, simple as that.

You, my friend, is surely not invisible. You are one of the kindest person here. Someone who trully do care about others. Someone that I admirer very much and that I do love very much also!

I am sorry you are struggling with this...... I am far "too sensitive" but also there are people who don't care if they hurt others. I know you are not one of those, and for that I admire you!

Take care,
Fuzzy

I've always been told I'm "too sensitive" like it's a really bad thing. But what about the people who are "too mean" or "too cruel" or "too selfish?" Sensitivity shows a soft heart and kind soul. I suppose it could be taken to the extreme but I'd STILL rather be too "sensitive" than too "cruel."

IDK that it's such a black and white issue. Good or bad. You know? It just is. PTSD makes ours senses heightened... always on alert. Add to that that you might have been born with more sensitivity than most ppl, and voila! "too sensitive" is a disability... just mumbling here.

IMO the key thing is ...to work to be only as sensitive as you can be healthily.

Too Sensitive
Take care.

Hi Sarah,
Your plan to take care of yourself sounds like a good one. I hope it helped.

I'm highly sensitive, too. Sometimes it feels like a gift and sometimes it feels like a burden.

There's a great book out there by Elaine Aron called "The Highly Sensitive Person". It really helped me to understand and embrace this trait while also learning how important it is to take care of myself.

Oh, and I get extra sensitive during PMS. I hate that!

Take care,

gg

Thanks everyone.

That Highly Sensitive book is great!

I realize that the phrase "too sensitive" can sound too much like how many of us have been insulted, didn't mean it that way. Just happened to be short hand for how my mind was working at the time and still sorta is.

I could also say that I'm too raw lately for my own health. Now when I look back over the last few days, I see that stress has been building. Triggered in a way I did not notice at the time. My sleep is all off and weird now.

Some of this has to do with me simply interacting with more people. I'm participating in a local social justice email list and man oh man......can people get argumentative and critical! I want to be active in some community issues, just need to really pace myself.

Thanks again everyone.
Sarah
