I get upset about something...

even small

and OFF IT GOES

the mind loops
the negativity
the re-living
the nightmares

I hate being alive

I live quietly away

Yes DrFrank, however there is a reason for that. It is hard to learn how to break that cycle, it really is. It is not just a mere identification of a recognition of the cycle. The beginning of working on stopping the cycle is understanding why our brains try to problem solve. Once we pay attention to the actual TRIGGERS and trace them to the original questions that present these emotions, that is where we gain our control.

It is a little different for everyone. It honestly took me a while to understand this.
For me, I could trace this back to my early childhood and parts of my personal growth where I didn't learn the right SKILLS to resolve certain kinds of experiences.

The secret to helping one's self to control the symptoms of PTSD is to address the triggers and defuse them by helping the brain to find resolve instead of circling in confusion. It really takes time and REAL SUPPORT to work someone's way past these intrusive, crippling cycles.
