Has anyone had success using any meds, such as SSRI's?

I am on a taper-off dose of Lamictal, currently a little under 200, dropping from it's peak of 300. I have felt it has done nothing at all.

I have heard good things about Remeron (mirtazapine) for PTSD, as it's an antidepressant that works well for anxiety and sleep.

I've only been on one SSRI and it has not been helpful for me, personally. But just because it was not helpful for me does not mean that it won't help you.
Thanks for this!

The Best success ive had has been CBT so far..i have found no medication to help with the flashbacks at all. I cant be on SSRI's because they trigger my Bipolar episodes so thats not even an option for me. I recently tried Lifespan Integration Therapy with my therapist but i couldnt handle it yet at this point. Simple CBT seems to be the only resource ive found to work on my end, Good Luck!
Thanks for this!

Personally I hate SSRI's, the best medication I've tried is an MAO Inhibitor. Everybody's chemistry is different, I find I'm significantly less stressed and irritable on it, nightmares/flashbacks are not as frequent and triggers are not as triggering. Scientists are supposedly working on PTSD specific drugs since it is such an epidemic. This will probably take forever because of all the red tape.

Well, the last time I met with the psychiatrist, we discussed meds, at that time we decided to hold off, but she would write me a scrip if I feel I need it. I think it would help, I have been pretty immersed the past week. Just something mild. I can handle the anxiety, but I am getting a little depressed. I would rather nip it in the bud before I feel like sitting on a pier with a loaded .22.

Exercise and laughter are the best medicine, but to pick myself out of a dark place I needed some extra feel good chemicals upstairs. I agree, talk with your psychiatrist and tell her to write you up a script for some anti-depressant drugs. If you've never tried SSRI's give it a shot, their the "safest" out of all the ADs - least risk of overdose anyways. I didn't like the sexual dysfunction at all, I think it contributed to my bad experience, that and the 2 month withdrawal period. But like I said everybody is different. What sucks for me might be a God sent for you.

I was on low dose Prozac in the early 2000's from my PCP. I asked because I had "garden variety" depression, nothing major, just feeling bah humbug about life. I was on it about 6 months with no issues and I felt it helped a lot. So I am thinking that route.
