3.5 years ago I was on an in-patient psych unit for 4 months after a PTSD related suicide attempt. Towards the end of my stay I was sexually assaulted by a male staff member. I reported it, and within 4 days I was transferred to a state hospital where I stayed for 15 months. During the 4 days prior to being transferred I was not allowed to speak with anyone on staff about what happened. I was restricted to my room and pretty much shunned. Staff thought I was lying and the hospital did an internal investigation and fired the staff person but did not report to the police. Upon my transfer to the state hospital it was re-reported and investigated by the state police, DMH, Attorney Generals Office and DA's office-all of whom substantiated the assault.

Now I live in my own apartment-which is next to a group home that is run by the human service agency I work with. I go to the group home to share meals, meet with staff, do laundry and socialize with my friends that live there. On Friday I went over to hang out and turned the corner into the kitchen and was greeted by "John"-a nurse that was on the in patient unit the day I was assaulted and the following 4 days. He wasn't involved in the actual incident that day-but was working at the time and was friends with the male staff member who assaulted me.

I was stunned and everything that happened-everything I have worked so hard to heal from and move on from has come flooding back to me. I feel so de-railed by seeing him and what he reminded me of.

Apparently he was at the group home from an outside agency to do an assessment on a resident. The director said he was not even the regular nurse that does them-he was just filling in. I know she was trying to be helpful and ease my fears but it doesn't help. I may never see him again but it doesn't put back the memories that has flooded my mind since entering the kitchen and hearing "Hey, Aidan-how have you been?"
