I stopped having nightmares for awhile and now they are back! Does anyone know why they could come and go?I have not been exposed to any triggers and my anger and anxiety has been ok. Is it something to do with Stress?Depression?any input would be great.

Stress and depression can both cause an increase, as well as anticipating having to deal with potentially triggering situations, watching something on TV that reminds you, or talking about it with someone.

((Aiuto)),
Being in the process of trying to find a new T, a good T can be triggering. My T is my lifeline right now, he knows my situation, my history and he understands PTSD and he is "calm" and he listens and constantly reassures me. I have not really had that for "me", I was always "the one to help everyone else". My mother used to help me, but she has dementia and isn't really there in her memory anymore, she is there but not there. Having that one person who can ground you is so important. ((Hugs)) OE |

Depends, stress usually, in life, can cause them, to return. Just waking up, from one, right now myself.
If you've been sitting on any type of issue, all day, they can return. ![]() Sent from my LG-MS910 using Tapatalk 2 |

I like the amino acid GABA for nightmares. I follow Billie J.Sahley's protocol and take 375mg of powder in a small glass of water before bed. She recommends another on the bedside table in case you wake with nightmares or terrors but the bedtime dise is enough for me. This will not disrupt normal dreaming. It reduces the anxiety that causes nightmares.
Serotonin can provoke epic dreams. If you are having a carb only snack before bed or on any serotonin raising protocol you can be provoking dreams. The nicotine patch is notorious for causing wild dreams. So vitamin b6. If you take a multi vitamin or b-complex take it in the morning. Sometimes we have to dream to heal. As i was working through terrible trauma memories I protected my sleep with the GABA protocol, but would fall alseep on the couch before therapy. I would sit down with a cup of coffee and drop into a deep sleep, always waking in time for therapy. Those were awful dreams in a trance like paralysis, but in them I worked through a lot. Its important to protect nighttime sleep. We can become sleep avoidant night owls and cause a whole new level of stress and ill health. |

Yes it has been a HORRIBLE time for me because I just realized after being in the PW that I have been going threw a 2 month withdrawal from my SNRI and everything is flared up and I am back to square one. Of a recovery that took me month's to get stabilized and now I am back starting over. I guess that explains everything that is going on with me and my PTSD.
