Fell again. T tells me being accident prone is a symptom of PTSD? I don't know why it would be. Accident Prone

This time in the shower. We have one of those walk-in types surrounded by glass and I stepped in and bam. My arm hit the shower door handle which helped break my fall.

I am always falling or walking, bumping into things. I fall down stairs all the time. I always have unexplained bruises.

Big dark one now on my arm now and it's sore, but I'll live.

Sigh, the blood disorder makes the bruising worse.

What a klutz.

What your T says is true. Having PTSD makes us more distracted mentally, so things happen. Its the same with any anxiety. Glad it's just a bruise!

I run into walls and stuff all the time too... but I never correlated it with PTSD.. I just figure I am kind of ditsy at times, so it was just me being me

Today I pulled out the oven rack without the use of a potholder. It is not a serious burn, but it sure does sting.

I am wondering if this is because I am preoccupied with numbing my feelings over the death of a friend.

I am so busy stuffing down the emotions and reality of it all, that I find myself being a total space cadet. Accident Prone

yeah, My t mentioned something once about being accident prone and ptsd. Something about recreating a painful situation which may be able to "master" or the putting the inside pain out onto the outside..

IMO it doesn't have to be PTSD that causes it... anyone who feels (even unconsciously) that they deserve to be punished can do this... fall, drop knives, other sharp stuff etc.

(((Hugs)))) stay safe.

((hugs))

That is so interesting - PTSD and accident prone.

I am the most accident prone.. falling down stairs, falling thru glass part of screen door, cutting myself on the glass picture frame - needed I don't know how many stiches..., cutting myself while doing dishes

it is a family joke, not to give me a sharp object. One Thanksgiving, I cut myself accidently with a bread knife that needed stiches....

wow, I never thought that. I just thought it was me. I am always bruising, bumping, breaking, spraining things. Thank you for the information.

I agree _Sky. There are many, many reasons for it.

My T was explaining to me how I tend to get more accident prone when my PTSD is heightened and that I need to slow down and try to concentrate so I don't hurt myself.

Somehow I never remember that till it's too late.Accident Prone

Common“symptoms”
after exposure to trauma or loss.

•Physical: fatigue, appetite change,
sleep loss, tension, being more
accident prone.

•Cognitive: “spacing out,”decreased
ability to focus or concentrate,
forgetfulness.

•Emotional: frustration, anxiety,
depression, mood swings, nightmares.

•Social: isolation from others,
intolerance, lashing out, distrust,
lowered sex drive.

•Spiritual: emptiness, loss of direction,
doubt, apathy.

Petunia, I found my bath mat gets unglued from the shower floor when things get dryer (no one's showered in a bit) and then I turn on the water again. I have gone "surfing" on the bathmat and wrenched my back not falling. I have a shower like yours. So, I discovered the "problem" and even told my husband about it to warn him but have I replaced the bathmat yet? No :-)
