Firstly I should say, I'm not sure what I have is PTSD (I can't diagnose myself), however I feel I may have symptoms similar to it after a failed relationship, that was left with unfinished business, baggage and unnecessary bad feelings and abuse from a friend (she had BPD, but it still does not make it right).

I was wondering, has anyone gone to a private counselor? Particularly in the UK? I don't want to go back through the NHS and I feel a more direct life coaching may be what I need/someone I can really talk to at length about some of these more embedded issues. I saw a therapist on the NHS before for depresssion, we did CBT, she was wonderful but we didn't have many sessions together.

I am trying to gauge if it will be worth the time/money. Be good to hear other people's experiences. Thanks!

counseling is definitely worth it, especially if you think you have ptsd. if you have limited sessions with nhs then it would be helpful to be somewhere where you don't have to worry about limitations especially if counseling was helpful to you in the past.

I'm in the US and only speaking from my perspective. I have insurance that will pay for therapy but I pay out of pocket because I didn't want to choose someone off their list. My insurance changed three months into my therapy so I'm glad I went the route I did. It has been worth my time and money.

Hey guys,

thanks you for the feedback. May I ask how much you spent on average? Or what the p/h was like?

I'm going to email a few local counselors on Monday and see if I can get a quote. I'm currently without a job so I may not be able to start sessions for a time but maybe I can have a one or two just to get me grounded.

I'm in the UK and like seeing someone private because they won't suddenly terminate me due to budget cuts and nothing goes in my medical records so it helps me feel in control of the situation.
