Everyone in my family knows there's something wrong with me but I never really told any of them what it is until today. I told my sister-in-law today because I figured she'd get the news out for sure.
I guess my reason for letting my family know is I don't want to feel ashamed anymore for having a mental illness. They're all pretty insensitive but I thought they might as well know what's going on. The fact that I have C-ptsd should be no surprise to them given they grew up in the same environment. My being molested as a child may come as a shock to them but it wasn't anyone in my family, so they're in the clear there. I doubt I'll get any sympathetic phone calls but I feel better that it's out in the open. I don't want it to be some deep dark secret. What they do with the news is irrelevant to me.

My guess is they probably won't know "what" to do about it, most people don't. So don't be surprised if they avoid discussing it, it's a normal response as people simply don't have any idea what to say.
What is important is how "you" feel about it. ((Hugs)) OE |

Hi, SkyWhite. I am glad you felt able to tell your family. Your problem is nothing to be ashamed about. So, don't let them try to make you feel guilty or different or "wrong," if they do that. You might want to be prepared to provide them with information about what your diagnosis is about, etc., if they do ask questions.
