Ok, so I woke up this morning and remembered something else about my childhood and what happened at one time when I was little. The most recent memory I remember is when my mom and dad made a garden and they built a fence around it. It seems like every time I think to myself I am remembering something else from my childhood. And I'm remembering the tinniest details, like that when we had a garden we had chickens behind the fence space behind our house. And at one point we had to deal with these mostly green catapillars on the vegetables in our garden. And I remember we had this one cute little gray goose and the dog ate it and I cried when we figured out what happened because it was missing. I am starting to remember almost everything from my childhood. It scares me
Possible trigger:
I'm not sure I really want to remember that. Why am I suddenly remembering almost all the stuff that happened in my childhood?
Possible trigger:

usually a person starts remembering their childhood that they have previously could not remember, when they have done some healing and are now ready to deal with those memories. keep up the great work and progress Angelwings.

also just a heads up location has nothing to do with how and when a person remembers things, location also has nothing to do with whether a person was abused and how they were abused. because of internet stalking and other unsafe situations usually people on the internet do not post their actual locations during childhood or as an adult. this is something that is taught to children as young as preschool on up...that its not safe to share personal information on the internet...its kind of like you woouldnt walk up to a stranger on the street and just tell them where you grew up, and where you live now because that stranger could be harmful..

not saying people here on psych central are dangerous strangers just that internet safety rules taught to children teens and adults in schools and internet classes are that you dont usually share personal information like actual locations where its possible for those that are on websites seeking prey\victims. statistics in my location show that those that have been abused, mental disorders ...are more prone to internet stalking, cyber bullying and harmed in real life by people from internet groups when they share personal information like locations (where they have grown up, lived or presently live, phone numbers and such).

Could I be remembering my childhood now because I don't have contact with the person who abused me (my dad)?

I cant say directly to your situation if this is why, because i am not you or your treatment provider, only you know the hows and whys of things that have to do with you.

what I can tell you is that I do know some people who broke free of their abusers and through therapy remembered their past memories. I know some people who broke free and remembered their past memories with out treatment. both situations (remembering with treatment and remembering without therapy) is a positive thing. it shows that the person remembering is getting mentally healthier, less disorder more stability and ready to handle those things that have previously gone unremembered.

talk with your treatment providers they can help you to discover the answers to your questions in a more directly related to you way that we are not able to online.

I didn't say location mattered to abuse. I was just curious what part of the country she grew up. Never mind!

I think the secret is that it is OK for the memories to come back, if you can divorce the memory from the pain, like war vets that have EMDR for PTSD.

It has worked well for many.
