I have an upcoming medical procedure and am panicky about it. I have PTSD and do not like being touched or feeling vulnerable .this is a major challange. I will be under general anesthesia and in ambulatory surgery. There is the whole process of numerous people asking personal questions, getting changed into a hospital gown, and people I don't know touching me. How do you do it?

Hello o.kay: Well... the Skeezyks has had a few surgeries plus some other outpatient procedures. I don't have any particular suggestions as to how to get through it. Personally I just know it has to be done & I do it. One small trick I sometimes use, in these & other types of stress-inducing situations, is to think of some enjoyable thing I expect to be doing at some point following the stress-inducing event. For instance, it might be something as simple as an upcoming TV program I plan to watch later in the week. I imagine myself there & remind myself that, when the time comes that I am actually there, the stress-inducing event will be behind me. This always helps me. Good luck!
