I was just wondering if I am the only one that deals with this, When I was younger I use to watch all kinds of scary movies and now I can't watch any violence at all, It is like I am a different person, I like to watch a good suspenseful thriller, But if it is gross or any thing off the movie goes, I don't even hardly watch the television at all any more and not the news, It just gets me upset

I used to do the same! I can stand some violence but I have fully identified the movies that trigger my PTSD! I always play it safe than deal with the feelings that come from violent movies! You're not alone!

I also have a hard time with movies or shows. However the watching the news is the worst for me. I think because the stuff on the news is real and actually happening where as in movies I'm able to reassure myself it's not real.

I was the same way!
I used to watch all sorts of traumatizing things when I was little just because I was curious and I wouldn't be scared or disturbed at all
Now I can't watch anything too violent or disturbing or I will be feeling horrible for days

I dont really deal with it, I just make sure to read all of the spoilers of movies and all the warnings and such before watching it so I can make sure I'm not surprised

When I was a teenager I watched scary movies. Now I'm not able too. They are triggering for me. I'm not able to attend movie theatre either. The loudness of the sound irritates me.

I would love to go to a movie theater but I don't know if I could stand the loudness either

I can't watch anything with a lot of violence or anger. I also have a really hard time with suspense. I can't do anything with that sort of creepy "what is going to happen next?" music. It's too nerve wracking for me.

Violence in a movie or show is what does it for me. I ended up leaving the theater during a movie so now I don't go at all. Ends up being a waste of money.

I can't watch any movies or TV shows that have drama. Anything that hooks my emotions sends me into an anxiety attack. I hate it.

I do like a movie that you dont know what is going to happen next, I just cant stand violent sadistic slasher type movies that are just plain gross snd have no plot, You have to be sick and twisted to like those movies in my opinion

Congratulations all of you! You're growing up,and prefer a more
sophisticated entertainment,as opposed to slash and scream,or
boom bang bang thud with no plot. Give self pat on back.
Respectfully,

Yeah, kind of sucks. I used to laugh during horror films and now I just turn them off five minutes in. "The Hills Have Eyes", yeah, no way in hell can I watch that due to some of the contents. These were some of my favorite movies and now I'm giving them away to people because I just don't want them in my house. Can't listen to certain songs anymore, either.

me, too! I feel full-up of violence, frightening things that i cannot absorb or process any more, especially am not seeking it out in fiction!!

Before I watch/read anything fictional, I need to know what happens. I'll read wikipedia plot summary so there are no surprises. Believe this is the PTSD, but I no longer find catharsis in fictional violence/thrillers. After PTSD reached the tipping point approx 10 years ago, I haven't been able to immerse myself in any book or movie to the degree I used to - just enjoying the ride or the scare. If there is an area of my life I can control w/out hurting others, causing loved ones problems, i will damn well control it. I don't think I will ever go to a theater again - sitting in the dark, surrounded by total strangers, with the building anxieties seems a recipe for personal freak-out, and I avoid it.
I am a different person, now.

I'm okay with books, but for movies - and some telly programmes - i read the plot summary or spoilers first.

I not longer can watch violent movies... In the past I thought nothing of it... But in fact I can see I was just numb.

Violence stays in my head well beyond an hour after seeing a film... It could stay there for days. Since I have my own violent past that I keep coughing up and dealing with I do not need any fiction mixing together with my own. Funny how things change
