I was in a car accident on January 9th and ever since then, I've been scared to drive. Everytime I sit behind the steering wheel, I feel a complete fear and panic take over. It is hurting my life. I had an appointment with my psychiatrist yesterday and forgot to mention it to him but as I was leaving, I mentioned it to the receptionist.

I have a therapy appointment tomorrow morning at 9.

I'm having such a hard time.

Hugs.

Its good that you're talking to your doc about it. Well, left a message with the receptionist. Could you call your doc to follow up?

Car accidents can cause PTSD. Your doc will be able to tell you if you have full blown PTSD or if you just have some of the symptoms.

Even if you don't have the full disorder, that doesn't mean you aren't suffering or don't need treatment. It sounds like you could really use the help of a therapist. Does your therapist know anything about trauma? The thing with trauma is that it oftentimes requires the help of someone who is trained in treating trauma. I've had therapists who don't know anything about PTSD just make me worse.

I'm sorry that you were in a car accident, hopealwayz. Accidents are a leading cause of PTSD. I hope you were able to speak with your therapist about this issue. Let us know how you're doing.

I went to therapy yesterday and we briefly skimmed over the PTSD issue because we were busy talking about my problems at my ADHD unfriendly job.
I really like my therapist.

My psychiatrist's office never called back and I don't see him again until 2 months. But I'm already on Xanax and Klonopin (One for panic attacks and the other for general anxiety) so there's not much else he can do because he doesn't do therapy. Good thing I finally found my therapist. As we were walking out, he gently said "don't let anyone pressure you to drive if you're not ready". He is wonderful.
