Does PTSD only come from major things like sexual abuse or being robbed etc

or could it be from an incident that happened with someone you trusted and saw as a friend, totally blindsided you and did a complete 180... and you had no idea how to cope

i ask because an incident like his happened to me in 2014 but I've never talked about it, i tried to wish it away and sadly, i still run into this person on a regular basis and still feel complete terror and like i may pass out or throw up. i do anything i can to avoid them but sometimes its unavoidable so i go into panic mode.

i plan to talk about this in therapy next week, it will be the first time I've told anyone but i just was kinda thinking if maybe this could somewhat be my issue since its been 3 yrs and i still feel terrified of this person.

PTSD is caused by a traumatic event. How trauma is defined, in my experience, since I am not a doctor, is generally determined by the effects it has on the person after the event.

PTSD itself has pretty well defined ideas of what the effects of the traumatic event are on the person, so if you feel you fit those - I would say it's worth asking about.

I guess when I decide to finally talk about what happened and how I never spoke about it, just kept it in and dealt with the pain for 3 yrs, I will see if he says anything about it in that sense. I know for a fact it's the main reason I trust no one anymore. I am even still struggling to trust my therapist completely. Its tough but thanks for the reply

Do you have flashbacks or nightmares or dissociation of any kind?

It still seems you have some sort of high anxiety related to it so I do encourage you to talk about it

Thanks, that is my goal for my next session on Tuesday, even though I am literally ill thinking about reliving it.... someone needs to hear it though and help me learn to manage this hell.

(unfortantatly this person who hurt me, lives very close to me so seeing them in the summer is quite frequent and only raises my fear)

I have found the more you talk about it - the easier it becomes to deal with. Writing it out can sometimes help as well, maybe try that first and bring it in n just read it out..

It is hard to see people on a regular basis that have hurt you. I've been dealing with that for my whole life. I live within a mile of one person who abused me when I was a child and another who repeatedly set me up to be abused when I was a teen.

I think it's a great idea that you are going to discuss this with your therapist. The act of talking about may be the beginning of processing it and moving beyond it.

Good luck and hugs!

I ended up moving away from people who triggered me though I know it's not always an option. Still, it helps with the anxiety more than the fear.

Keep us posted on how it goes with your T.
