For me.. I would never in a million years dreamed that I would get a "trigger" as a present from my best friend... and it threw me for a loop.. and sent a shock thru my "DID" system...

Yazaa... a simple plant.. a Christmas catus.. a gift for me..

and.. I am sent back to such a horrendous time.. instantly.. to my uncles place.. where my body was not my own..but belonged to him..

his pride and joy.. a huge Christmas catus.. years and years old...a plant.. that was always center of attention..

I said "thank you" for the plant.. in shock..sick to my tummy..
and.. made it thru a 3 hour long visit...with my friend.. with the plant.. sitting on the pub table.. between us.. I was so relieved when we moved to the couch.. because... I couldn't keep my eyes off of it...

friends... do not want to know.. so I do not tell them...

the "gift" resides on my kitchen counter... I know not what to do with it..

I keep thinking.. that it was perhaps sent.. so I could accept.. so I could heal... so I could perhaps nourish the plant and heal..

But... that is too much to ask... I cannot... just cannot... keep this plant... it symbolizes my pain....

what do I do with the plant? it sits.. and sits.. and sits...

Hi Freewill. I'm dealing with something similar per say. After losing everything, i'm not wanting to buy anything or receive gifts from anyone. I just dont want anything, only what is a neccessity. I guess i keep in the back of my mind that if i have to run again, i only want what i can fit into my truck.

I'm thinking maybe give to someone who likes plants alot and let them take care of it. Donate it to a school or church for a fair they have.

I hope you get many more suggestions and find one that works for you.

Hi Freewill, Throw it out if it causes you pain. And don't feel guilty for doing so. Or sit it outside somewhere where you can not see it. Triggers are things to stay away from, they cause us pain at a time when we only want peace and time to heal. PTSD... a plant.. a gift... a friend...a trigger..

maybe.... and i don't say this to be mean or to hurt plants... but maybe it is a gift to heal - that you can heal by beating the plant into bits. destroy it and the trigger? have power over the trigger by being more powerful than it?
(mind you, a trigger/phobia of mine is 8-leggeds; if some one gave me one as a gift they'd have to take it out with them immediately).

or have someone that likes cacti come and get it.

put it out on the road with a "FREE" sign in it.

Hello freewill,

I would definitely remove it from your home ... perhaps give it to someone else if you can't bring yourself to throw it away. It's not worth the constant trigger to keep it around ... there are better ways to heal, and you will.

Partly due to the stage I'm in ......I would kill it, stomp it, throw it and discard it in the trash. And when your friend asks tell her you over-watered it.
