I have a lot of tips for falling asleep (listening to "Beethoven for Bedtime", taking melatonin/my bipolar meds, drinking chamomile tea, avoiding screens before bed, progressive muscle relaxation, exhausting myself during the day physically with exercise and mentally by reading and learning stuff, and limiting caffeine to a cup of coffee around 5am).
But I tend to wake up at around 1am after 2-3 hours of sleep and can't get back to bed. I do have bipolar as well as PTSD but I think given that it happens even outside of (hypo)mania it's more of a PTSD thing. How do I either stay asleep or get back to sleep quickly? __________________ Live life for nothing but that sweet sweet melody. |

This seems to be the most helpful thing I've found so far. Just thought I'd share.

Laying in bed with eyes closed, repeat to yourself "stop the chatter, go to sleep". Works for me most of the time

Another tip for falling asleep (again doesn't work for staying asleep, I literally slept 10 minutes last night using this to fall asleep but still woke up) is the 4-7-8 breathing technique:
Put your tongue against the inside of your top teeth and breathe in through your nose and count to 4 in your head. Hold it and count to 7. Open your mouth and breathe out counting to 8. Repeat at least 3 times. __________________ Live life for nothing but that sweet sweet melody. |
