After being diagnosed with PTSD, I have found that there is very little distinction between anything that may be PTSD reactions and simply losing my temper, etc. Are there ways to tell the difference? Is everything PTSD now?

Hi @Mi Amor this is a good question. I can only answer from my own experience.
To me telling what is the cause of the emotion does not matter as much as how do I manage the emotion. For example, I see and am aware that thoughts of irritation are arising in my mind and I am aware that last time I did this I had an angry outburst. I go into defensive mode and do not let these thoughts grab control. I can follow my breath, excuse myself and leave the room or ask something different. What really matters to me is I find a way to avoid the angry outburst. Hope that offers another viewpoint. Of course if a therapist and you were working together, they might give you a precise answer, but to me the problem is not what caused it but how do I manage it so I do not self destruct and wreck my relationships with people. @CANDC __________________ Super Moderator Community Support Team "Things Take Time" |

Welcome!
There is much more to PTSD than losing your temper. Other criteria need to be met for an official diagnosis. __________________ True happiness comes not when we get rid of all our problems, but when we change our relationship to them, when we see our problems as a potential source of awakening, opportunities to practice patience and learn.~Richard Carlson |
