I just got a few really mean replies and one mean email from another mental health 'support' site. I thought we were supposed to be gental and supportive of each other in these forums. Am I expecting too much?

This is the only mental health site I visit, so I don't know about the "personality" of other sites. But here I find people to be generally quite supportive.

I know it's hard to experience that, but try not to let the meanies bother you. There are jerks everywhere. Some people with nothing better to do go to message board sites specifically to cause trouble and annoy people. If someone is harassing you here, you can report them to an Admin and put them on "ignore" so you won't be able to read their posts.
