I have always had nightmares... starting with as a very young child...
Coping... I use medication... to keep me asleep... because otherwise I wouldn't be able to get any at all...ambien... valium...trazadone.. and.. no my nightmares are not caused by medication - I have been asked that and asked that... I have only been taking them in the last 4 years.. I avoid taking medication.. so I don't have to sleep....so I do understand that... staying up... The Most.. important thing is that you do get sleep... your body must rest.... There is medication... I went to a specialist that stops that part of sleep.. but they will only use it now in extreme cases.. when you are sleep walking.. and hurting yourself or others.. because it isn't good for your body.. Writing down nightmares helps me a great deal... takes the power from them.. gives me insight into what is bothering me.. and helps that nightmare go away...so that there is not as much as a residual effect the next day... A recurring nightmare... you can envision a different ending to it... and it gets incorporated into the dream... and that nightmare can then go away.. You can also work.. on meditating.. envision that you are like a "huge foot" that can stomp.. anything that scares you...(per my T) Playing music.... soothing music all night long helps... it really does... leaving a light on... like closet - though very low... helps... sleeping with a stuffed animal - large enough to hold onto... something that represents security - mine is a stuffed monkey - like "the book curious George" having.. a blankey... yes.. a blaknkey... does help... mine is a jersey... type light weight ... very, very soft... that I hang onto.... Not.. watching news... reading newspapers... horror shows... reality shows... that also helps and is recomended... making you place of sleep.. the room.. the area.. as safe feeling as possible... also helps.. I know.. that due to living conditions... perhaps none of these are possible.. but.. wanted to give you some suggestions that have worked for me.... take care... freewill |
