I have to stop my antidepressants that I have been taking for 13 years for 2 weeks in order to be put on Effexor, has anyone ever withdrew and how was it. I am worried because I suffered through withdrawal from benzos 2 months ago and that was one of the worst experiences of my life.
Thank you for any input you might have.

You should taper off your anti-depressants to make the transition the easiest it can possibly be. Withdrawal is different for everybody. Some people can come off with no consequences others face all kinds of horrible side effects, it's all up to your own body. good luck. I take effexor and apart from the immense weight gain have been very happy with it.

At least you're not tapering OFF of Effexor, just reducing the dosage made me basically a nervous wreck for over a week. (It's a highly annoying drug to come off of, as a forewarning).

My thoughts, taper off as much as you can.
Drink lots of water. (and possibly caffeine for headaches not caused by dehydration)
Sleep. Lots.
Don't try to do anything major.
Try to eat, but if you're nauseous then have Gravol/ginger stuff and try to eat small meals of whatever you can.

I basically hide for days.

It is *never* recommended by manufacturers or knowledgeable physicians to stop taking meds suddenly.

I stopped Prozac suddently after 10 years and the withdrawal was very unpleasant and uncomfortable.

You can find more information by Googling your medication and seeing what information is there about withdrawals.

Also, part of your receiving good medical care would include your physician telling you what to expect during the weeks that you will have withdrawal symptoms if you stop cold turkey.

idontknow13, what anti-depressant are you stopping? Withdrawal from the different classes can manifest quite differently.

Have you shared those thoughts with your prescriber? Effexor is the devil to come off of, so if withdrawal is a big worry/fear for you, do you think Effexor is the best choice? Because one day, you will be coming off of it... I'm not trying to be discouraging, but just wanted to check to see if you'd had that conversation with your prescriber.

I am stopping Manerix which I dont think is sold in the U.S., about Effexor, from what I have been told, I should be on it for a while so I will deal with it when the time comes.
As of wednesday I should not be taking Manerix but I have been prescribed Ativan to get through it as smoothly as possible although I dont plan on taking them unless I really suffer from withdrawal.
Thank you for all who replied to my post.

((((IDN))))

I hope the anxiety gets better soon. I have never had to stop my meds but have heard it can be a difficult process. Sending you good thoughts.

Just as a forewarning usually towards the end of the first week is a big pain in the butt for discomfort and ickiness.
