Effexor was very effective for me, it did come with some sexual side efffects that I just couldn't deal with in the end.

Effexor works for me. On 150mg. Massively bad side effects going on it, massively bad side effects when lowering the dosage (and survey says: likely bad side effects coming off of it entirely. Apparently habit forming/addictive).

It works very well, but the side effects are brutal.

I hated effexor. Took it about two months then doc changed me back to Paxil and I'm much happier. Many bad side effects for me, and I seemed to focus only on myself. Never again.

I'm on it at a fairly high dose and it works reasonably well for me. When i first started it I got really bad migraines but that stopped after a week or two. I still get a bit nauseas (sp?) and dizzy about 4 hours after taking it. Oh and I've noticed that since I've been on it, i'll occassionaly break into really heavy sweats for no good reason.

I can safely miss a dose for a couple of days but anymore than that it becomes hellish. Not looking forward to the day I come off of it.

Oh and one other really weird permanent side effect from it, was it completely changed my sense of taste. Pre effexor, I loved chocolate and red wine and mexican food. Post effexor can't stand any of them.

I find it to be very helpful. I did not experience side effects going on it or with going up in dosage. I am at a very high dosage. However, if I forget a dose, by the time for my next one (I take it twice a day) I can start to be light headed and disoriented. So it is different for everyone. I have gone off of it (not under the watch of a doctor as I ran out and my problem was I didn't have a doctor) and it wasn't too bad as long as I took it slowly. Good luck. I found that it helped me when the SSRIs didn't.

Oh I could never miss a dose. If I didn't take it pretty close to the same time each day I would get horrible brain zaps.

Personally I wasn't a fan. Felt like I was dying; terrible nausea, no appetite (lost nearly a stone in 2wks), anxiety was through the roof, and felt really really dizzy whenever I stood/sat up. I'm the end I was taken off it after 2 and a 1/2 wks. I'm unusual (apparently) in that i'm really sensitive to side effects and they don't go away after a few wks like they're supposed to (lucky me! ). Unfortunately, improved mood has never been a side effect I've experienced with meds...Hmmm

My friend, who suggested I tried effexor/venlafaxine, loved it though. Was on it for a few years and it really helped her depression. She only had mild side effects (bit of nausea and dizziness) which went quickly. Had more trouble coming off it though, but also bareable.

Everyone's different and I think effexor is one of those marmite drugs in that you either love it or hate it. Good luck

Hated it. Made me shaky and anxious (and left hand tremor) and sick. Came of it after 2-3 weeks on a fairly low dose. Few withdrawal symptoms because it made me feel so bad that it was relief to my body to be off of it. I can't tolerate anything that concentrates Serotonin in my brain. So even though it had norephenephrine (SP?) RI, the other part screwed me up as usual.

I just started Effexor at 37.5 for a week, then 75 for a week, then 150.
It has only been 2 days and I am sick as a dog, I have diarhea and feel very nauseus, I havent been able to eat for 36 hrs. Is this normal? All I have done is lie in bed. I cannot believe prescription drugs can make one feel so bad.

Read the paper insert and see if those are side effects it lists. Even so, I'd call and leave that message for the doctor, so he/she knows what you're going through.
