I asked my psychiatrist to put me on Anafranil, so he did, except it's Clomipramine (generic), because they don't make Anafranil anymore. I know all drugs have side effects, but it does worry me a lot, because Anafranil/Clomipramine can cause heart problems, and I have a heart pacing problem. I'm on a high dosage of Clomipramine now (250 mg) and I am seeing some improvement finally, but not the life-saving change of when I first took Anafranil (it was the brand name, and it turned my life around at 150 mg). I'm scared to go off it (lowering the dose a little at a time), or go down to a lesser dosage, for fear of losing the benefits.

I've been on a number of other drugs (SSRIs, anti-psychotics) which didn't help, although I was on low dosages of most of those. I would prefer to be on something with fewer side effects and risks, but I don't want to lose the good I've had so far, which is nowhere near enough. I can't do anything hardly, and my life is SOOOO limited. Just to get on the computer is a chore, because I have to do a lot of things before I can get on (which is why I'm not on every day like I used to be).

I guess I'll ask my pdoc what he thinks when I see him again, but if anyone has any advice for me, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Have you tried elavil, Maven? For some reason my pdoc won't let me have it anymore because I take so many meds, but it helped me so very much while I was on it.

I hope things get better for you very soon.

No, I haven't tried Elavil. I don't know if that's used for OCD often. But thanks, I'll talk to my shrink about it.
