I've been on meds now for over two years and I know that others here have been on them for many more years than I.
I'd like to know the liklihood of my ever being med-free. My dx's are major depressive episodes (recurrent), generalized anxiety disorder, borderline personality disorder, and I have a mild case of OCD. I currently take Lexapro, Effexor, Xanax and Abilify. Is it common for people like me to get off meds completely, or is it more likely that I'll always need something? |

somebodyelse - It would be impossible for me to answer this question, as I would need your entire medical history, including doctor and therapist notes. Even with this I would not be able to give you a definitive answer (perhaps I might be able give an unqualified "guess" from my clinical experience), as I am only a pharmacist. My expertise is the drugs, not diagnosis or prognosis of specific disorders.
Also, psychiatric conditions are not static, the specific parameters are constantly changing, evolving, and morphing in unpredictable ways. Genetics and environmental factors come into play. All of this is beyond the scope of my expertise. I am sorry that I cannot even begin to give you an honest opinion, and any answer I might give would be purely an uneducated guess, and that would be professionally unethical on my part. Sincerely - Cam |

Thanks for your reply, Cam. I understand now why you cannot answer my question. I'll talk to my pdoc about it.
