For a couple of months i'm in medication taking a sort of antiodepressant called paroxetine and since then there haven't been no positive effect. Medications prescribed by psychiatrists is nothing new for me. In the past Xanax and Welbutrin haven't done nothing for me. My psychiatrist told me that the effect could take some weeks. Yeah right; been there done that epic fail. I'm deciding to end my medication and possibly ending my appointments with my psychiatrist. No progress since then. I must accept that my problem has NO solution. I hate my life right now!

((stieg)) I'm sorry you feel like this just now but it can take a long time to find the right meds or the right combo of meds for you. Have you told your psychiatrist how you feel just now? Is there anyone else you can talk to? I'd hate for you to stop meds completely and maybe just feel even worse.

Peace,
Julia

Yeah, there are a lot of different meds to try, and sometimes it takes a combination of them. I hate that it takes weeks to find out if a med will help, but if you're okay with taking meds, then you should keep trying, because there may be one or more out there that will make your life infinitely easier. There are no guarantees, but if you find THE ONE(S), you won't regret it.

I agree. Unfortunately, since anti-depressants can take 6-8 weeks to build in your system enough to see any effect. You need to keep in communication with your doctor. Maybe the dosage is too low, maybe it isn't the right medication. I was diagnosed at 16 (I am 34 now) with clinical depression. A couple of years later I got the added diagnosis of Anxiety disorder. I went through many medications, feeling better and stopping so I'd crash, all the side effects and addicted to Xanax.

After I had my first daughter (she is 9, her sister is 6), and after over a decade of trying to get treatment that would work, I found my current psychiatrist . Unfortunately, the reality is there is a shortage of psychiatrists and general practioners just don't have the information needed for these issues (though they are helpful in a crisis situation). It took me 10 years to find the doctor I have now. It's nice, because he is personable and makes me a partner in my medication decisions. He doesn't hand me a new medication and say "take this, don't ask questions". He also doesn't over-analyze me. If I wear a shirt that says the chicken quote, he laughs and asks me where I got it so he can get one for his wife. He doesn't look at me and ask "what does that REALLY mean?" He got me off the Xanax, helped me manage my issues (medication doesn't make them go away, so therapy helps when used with medication) and listens to me. I was recently diagnosed ADD, so we got to go through it all over again! Even though I am treated with stimulants, I have calmed WAY down and am lowering my Paxil CR dose.

It's a long road, and I know it's dark. I've been there. I hope this shines a little bit of light and offers some hope. It can and will get better. It's hard when you have to work so hard to find the right doctor and medication and have no motivation or energy to do it. Keep trying, keep going forward. It DOES get better! And remember, YOU are worth the effort!

The lack of effect of the medication is information in itself. Working with a therapist may be what is needed. If you are not already seeing a therapist, I hope you will consider finding a psychodynamic psychotherapist to work with so you can feel better.

I stopped taking paroxetine cold turkey. It was the worst thing I ever did. A day later I couldnt even walk straight.

Please if you are going to stop taking your medications get instructions on how to to it from your doctor.
